ZIPPER - 'Hiko' & 'Ear' Dual Single Launch

That the sound of ZIPPER calls to mind movement, division and reformation isn’t just narrative convenience. In the time since ZIPPER formed in Sydney in 2019, their members have moved and relocated Australia and the globe; yet they’ve found a way to return to each other in Melbourne... however, change is the only constant in our world, and with that sentiment the band prepare for their final Melbourne show until the summer, when they launch their debut LP with the aforementioned Spoilsport.

Joining them to celebrate the release of their recent single HIKO and upcoming single EAR on Spoilsport records are local jangle-luminaries PROGRAM, experimental ensemble VISION 200, and fresh projects THE BOLT ONS and DIBBER DOBBER.

In the notes for 'Dreamer’s Gate', their 2020 EP co-released by Tenth Court (AU) and Urticaria Records (FR), the band described themselves as Chica Sato of THE PLASTICS fronting MAGAZINE, and while that still holds true, the fingerprints of the member’s other bands have by 2025 become just as valid reference points. The post-punk turn of PROMAJA, the guitar-pop smarts of WIREHEADS, the propulsive rhythms of DELIVERY, the pleasure principle at the core of BIG ECHO, all while Haruka’s vocals which drift between Japanese/English effortlessly, levitating above the mix: an ebb and flow of post-punk signifiers for a new wave.
