Dandyweed Hootenanny brings together a bunch of musical friends and their respective side projects for a couple of special shows while Zia McCabe and Brent DeBoer are in Australia ahead of The Dandy Warhols’ national tour. Zia and Richie Weed have spent the past year working on an international recording project Arktik Lake, providing the connection for this musical get-together. Zia brings her psych-country outfit Brush Prairie, Brent fronts Immigrant Union, and Richie brings his Band of Strays. Three distinct sets, drawing from country, folk, psychedelia and rock ’n’ roll — a night of songs, rambling stories and many musical twists and turns.
Immigrant Union
Immigrant Union (feat: Brent of The Dandy Warhols) have been a mainstay on the Oz music scene for the past decade and a half. They have toured the world, supported acts such as Noel Gallagher and BRMC and played the renowned festivals Americana Fest (Nashville) and CMJ (NYC). The band has released three critically acclaimed albums and are about to embark on their 4th record. Catch them in October with friends Richie Weed and Brush Prairie.
Richie Weed
Richie Weed has never been content to stand still. While best known as the voice of Tumbleweed, recent years have found him forging a distinctly personal creative path, exploring new musical territory through songwriting, collaboration and a series of adventurous projects that continue to redefine his work. His acclaimed 2024 solo album Strays revealed a songwriter trading volume for nuance, weaving richly textured, deeply personal songs that draw as much from folk, country and psychedelia as they do from the alternative rock spirit that first made his name. That restless creative instinct continues to shape a diverse run of projects. Weed tours nationally with his Band of Strays and the acoustic pairing Weed & Nightingale with acclaimed guitarist Ben Nightingale (Clouds, Sleepy Jackson). He has recently celebrated the music of Tom Waits alongside Dave Graney, Hugo Race and Peter Fenton, and has completed recording as the voice of Arktik Lake, It's a body of work that speaks less of reinvention than restless creativity—an artist continuing to explore, collaborate and surprise.
Brush Prarie
Zia McCabe, synth, bass and percussionist for The Dandy Warhols, started her country side project Brush Prairie in 2010 as a return to her cowgirl roots. Born in Brush Prairie, Washington, and raised in nearby Battle Ground, McCabe grew up on vintage country and rock & roll. Brush Prairie’s shows blend favorite honky-tonk, rockabilly and classic country covers with McCabe’s originals, which slip naturally into the mix. In recent years, Brush Prairie has found a second home in Australia, where McCabe is joined by fellow Dandy Warhol Brent DeBoer and members of his Australian country-psych outfit, Immigrant Union.
