MELBOURNE ALBUM LAUNCH FOR ‘THE RED ZONE’ BY STEEL CITY SUE

This gig is hosted by Steel City Sue who is launching new album The Red Zone with a crew of women who all have something to say! The vibe will go from Folk to Ska-Punk with Steel City Sue bridging the gap across genres in the middle set.

ROARCUSS
Roarcuss are six women over a certain age with no fucks to give. Their punk/ska outfit of rhythm plus hornbag sections formed in Melbourne in late 2024 and started playing shows to receptive and riotous audiences in 2025.

Boasting three singer/songwriters and a poet, Roarcuss’ songs tackle the big issues like misogyny, Shrinkflation and good drying weather with irreverence and humour: they are here to remind us to rock hard and laugh loud.

Their debut single ‘Fuck AI’ was released in March 2026, receiving rave reviews, steady airplay and strong support from 3RRR which culminated in Roarcuss launching the song to a full house at The Old Bar in May.

STEEL CITY SUE
This show is a launch date for new Steel City Sue album 'The Red Zone' - recorded in winter in Wales with Mike & Katie West (Truckstop Honeymoon)

Steel City Sue (Newcastle) brings her own brand of ragtime industrial folk. Sue wrote award-winning song Boom Town and is known for a pile of fetching anti-coal songs from the belly of the Hunter Valley beast, served up with humour and regret. Flirting, bad driving, and climate catastrophes also get a run in her driven-yet-touching repertoire.

The Steel City Sue trio of multi-instrumentalists features the magnificent musicianship of Naomi Jones (Midnight Chicken, Highstreet Drifters) and Tim Merrikin (Coomba All Stars) swapping out twin fiddles, old time banjo, guitar plus Cajun accordion, double bass and loads of harmonies.

Title track ‘The Red Zone’ centres on land near the Williamtown RAAF base contaminated by PFAS ‘forever chemicals’; and the residents stuck on land they can’t sell, and their impossible burden of proof to claim for health impacts. This story has just hit the news again with the Federal government announcing it is suing 3M for more than $2 billion in damages!

EMMY RYAN
Emmy Ryan's music carries truth like a heartbeat — stories of love, loss, belonging, and the land that holds us. Following in the footsteps of troubadours that came before her, Emmy sings with fierce tenderness about what it means to find home, face history, and stay open-hearted in hard times. Rooted in the folk tradition of storytelling, her music lives at the meeting place of protest and poetry. Pairing songs that have earnt recognition in national and international songwriting competitions with deft musicianship and a voice that sits somewhere between a lullaby and a reckoning, Emmy invites you in — not just to listen, but to feel.
