Following the release of a series of music videos shot across Victoria, Homeward heads to the Wesley Anne for their debut headline show! They are an acoustic folk duo that celebrates the americana sound, consisting of Maeve Grieve and Noah James. They have developed their own innovative and daring songwriting style born from their collaboration, taking the listener on unexpected turns. Their sound is characterized by the thoughtful interplay of their guitars and mandolin, warm vocal harmonies, narrative lyrics, and is inspired by the music of Gillian Welch, Punch Brothers, Julian Lage and Norah Jones. Expect a guest or two to join them onstage too!
"Grieve [is] a gifted vocalist and guitarist... Noah James on mandolin was especially effective, his animated phrases mingling with Grieve's acoustic and electric guitar to give the tunes a buoyant alt-folk feel."
-The Age
Joining them on the night is Brian Campeau, who is mostly known for his complex guitar playing accompanied by long sorrowful vocals. He is less known for his charm and willingness to please his audience. Some don’t like his sense of humour. He went on a date once and his date told him never to become a comedian. She’s still single, he's still funny. Originally from Canada, he’s been in Australia since 2003, so that’s something.
He tends not to like being compared to other artists, but sees some value to these
comparisons. With this in mind, some say Brian sounds like Nick Drake mixed with
Radiohead, Hank Williams, and who knows what else. Others say he sounds angelic, so he'll go with that.
