Rob McWilliams Band

Professor Rob McWilliams has led an interesting life. A musician and composer, playing trumpet, flugelhorn and piano, he has been part of the jazz scene for many years, originally playing professionally in Melbourne with artists such as Wilbur Wilde and Paul Grabowsky.

His studies and high level of musicianship led him to the USA where he took up the post of Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh and ended up as Head of Music there for several years. As a teacher he has presented at major music conferences in Japan, Hong Kong, the UK, Singapore, Europe, China and Australia and is a published author. As a musician he has performed with many jazz greats including Nat Adderley, Vincent Herring, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Eddie Daniels, Ed Shaughnessy and Dale Barlow – a resume that is the envy of many an Australian jazz musician!

A talented musician, composer and arranger, Rob has had many opportunities over the years to create and perform his music to audiences all over the world.

Now living back in Australia, he works for Yamaha Music conducting music workshops around Australia as well as teaching at the Jazz Music Institute in Brisbane, conducting, composing, arranging music and performing regularly around Australia either as a side man or with his own jazz ensemble. Though he is a Professor with an incredible and impressive Curriculum Vitae, he is a warm and down-to-earth performer with a genuine connection to the audience, bringing the music alive.

This masterful musician in now bringing his music to the Sunshine Coast, performing with his band at The Jazz Sessions at The Presynct on Thurs 17th Sep. Joined on this gig by a stellar line-up of local Brisbane & Sunshine Coast musicians, they have come together to perform unique interpretations of jazz standards and some of Rob’s original compositions. Be prepared for an evening of sophistication, smooth jazz and world-class musicianship.
