Extreme metal history collides in April 2027 as Norway’s blackened thrash masters Aura
Noir and American black & roll maniacs MIDNIGHT unite for the Necro Metal Supremacy
Melbourne show on Friday April 23 rd at The Tote, Collingwood, culminating in a special co-
headlining appearance after the recently SELLING OUT Brutefest 2027 at the same venue in
Melbourne!
This historic tour marks the long-awaited return of Aura Noir to Australia for their second
assault on Australian soil, joined by MIDNIGHT for a rare and exclusive Australian
appearance that will bring one of the most revered names in modern underground metal to
stages across the country.
Necro Metal Supremacy Australia 2027 also celebrates two landmark anniversaries in
extreme metal history. Aura Noir will perform in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their
iconic debut album Black Thrash Attack, while MIDNIGHT commemorate the 16th
anniversary of their cult classic debut full-length Satanic Royalty, performing the album in its
entirety every night of the tour.
For the first time ever, Australian audiences will witness two of the most uncompromising
forces in extreme metal sharing the stage — bringing together the filth and fury of the
Norwegian black metal underground with the sleazy, speed-fuelled violence of one of
worlds most notorious black & roll institutions.
Formed in Oslo in 1993 by Aggressor (Carl-Michael Eide) and Apollyon (Ole Jørgen Moe),
Aura Noir stand among the most important black thrash bands to emerge from the second
wave of Norwegian black metal. Featuring members connected to genre-defining acts
including Mayhem, Cadaver, Ved Buens Ende and Immortal, the band forged a violent fusion
of primitive black metal and old-school thrash inspired by Slayer, Kreator, Voivod and
Sodom. Their seminal albums Black Thrash Attack, Deep Tracts of Hell and The Merciless
established a global blueprint for blackened thrash metal, influencing generations of
underground bands worldwide.
Despite tragedy and adversity following Aggressor’s near-fatal accident in 2005, Aura Noir
endured — cementing their status as one of Norway’s most respected and enduring
extreme metal institutions.
Joining them are Cleveland, Ohio black & roll cult legends MIDNIGHT. Formed in 2003 by
multi-instrumentalist and frontman Athenar, MIDNIGHT have spent more than two decades
building a worldwide reputation through their filthy fusion of black metal, speed metal,
punk and classic rock & roll excess. Drawing inspiration from Venom, Motörhead, Tank and
the earliest wave of extreme metal, the band have become synonymous with raw energy,
leather-clad debauchery and relentless touring. Since the release of Satanic Royalty in 2011,
MIDNIGHT have risen from underground cult status to become one of the most celebrated
and influential acts in modern extreme metal, earning a fiercely loyal global following
through acclaimed releases including No Mercy for Mayhem, Sweet Death and Ecstasy and
Let There Be Witchery.
