The Rogues play The Pogues at Clancy's Fish Pub- Fremantle (Fremantle, WA) on Sunday, 30 May 2021
The ROGUES are a Pogues 'tribute band'. The ROGUES play a gut-withering hard-driving brand of folk-rock, drawing upon the timeless Pogues repertoire of traditional, rebel and contemporary music and song. There's relentless rhythm - sublime, yet coarse verse - vocal gymnastics and - instrumental prowess. This is a pub band in the true sense.
Now - seriously, for a moment - history shows that the Pogues were born out of the nihilistic Punk music movement of the mid seventies in the Thatcherite United Kingdom. They fused the punk's anti-establishment stance and disrespect of tradition with (ironically) a love and affection for the songs, tunes and melodies of Ireland. The Pogues are perhaps defined by their lead singer, Shane McGowan - known for his tremendous songwriting, his terrible teeth, his constant drunkenness and his incorrigible disregard for things in general.
Dance, Singalong, dance, shout dance some more and yell. The more you give the more you'll get. And go home feeling happy. Then come back again
