Formed in 2012, Bad//Dreems have risen from humble origins in an Adelaide whitegoods warehouse to one of the most vital guitar acts in the country. Their early notoriety as an unmissable live act saw them tour extensively across Australia, UK and the US, before releasing their debut LP Dogs at Bay in 2015. The band has been championed by the likes of Robert Forster of the Go-Betweens and the Avalanches, who the band supported at this time, as well as the likes of Cold Chisel, At The Drive In, The Scientists and Midnight Oil.

Bad//Dreems’ distinctly Antipodean sound draws influence from alternative guitar bands of the 70s and 80s, such as The Saints, Coloured Balls, the Replacements and the Go-Betweens.  They have been likened to the more contemporary Melbourne cult act Eddy Current Suppression Ring, who are a stated influence. Since their inception a raft of Australian “pub rock” acts have followed in their wake, such as Amyl and the Sniffers, the Chats and Pist Idiots.

Their songwriting is the result of the collaboration of Ben Marwe (vocals) and Alex Cameron (guitar), with an aim to strip away the veneer of comfortable Australian suburban banality to reveal the bizarre, the dark, the twisted and the beauty that lies beneath…

We try to capture the experience of the everyday person but find within it with the romance of the lost highways the Never-Never, the terrifying vastness of the outback, the sordid colonial origins of Australia and the dystopian future that awaits"

Great Southern Nights 2024 will take place from 8-24 March 2024 featuring more than 300 gigs across 17 nights throughout Sydney’s inner city and Western Sydney, as well as shows in seven key music communities across NSW, including Tamworth, Wagga, Newcastle, Wollongong and the Northern Rivers.
