Created in 1956, Eurovision originally had just seven countries submit songs to perform in competition with each other. Now, more than 30 countries compete yearly (this year, 37 countries will participate). Fans and juries from competing nations vote to determine the ultimate winner each year. Sweden's Loreen won the 2023 competition for her song "Tattoo," and Ukraine and Italy won in 2022 and 2021, respectively. Ireland and Sweden hold the joint record for most Eurovision wins, with seven each.
The semi-finals kicked off on Tuesday and will pick back up again on Thursday, before heading to the Grand Final on Saturday. Tuesday saw 10 of the 15 acts voted through to the finals, and Thursday will advance several additional countries. In total, 26 of the 37 competing countries will make it to the final, but only one will walk away victorious.
With the exception of a 2020 Covid-related cancellation, the competition has been held every year since its inception, making it one of the most popular and longest-running non-sports-related annual competitions. If you can't wait to tune in, we've got you covered. Below, we have a breakdown of everything you need to know about watching Eurovision, including free live streaming options and a schedule for the week.
How to watch Eurovision 2024: Grand Final
Live coverage of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final will be on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 2, and BBC Sounds on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 8pm.
Voting will begin right before the first song is played. Instead of waiting until all entries have been presented, as has been the case* since public voting was introduced in 1997, viewers will be able to submit their votes as the songs are performed. (*Except in 2010 and 2011, when voting also began at the start of the show).
