Heavy-hitting Celtic-doom trailblazers BANJZIG have
shocked the music industry by announcing their immediate departure from Ed
Sheeran’s stadium tour. In a fierce stand for freedom of expression, the band has
pivoted back to their roots, locking in a headline slot for the Halloween Havoc
extravaganza at Thornbury’s Shotkickers on Saturday, 31 October.
BANJZIG’s sudden exit comes as an act of solidarity, joining standard-bearers like
Finneas O'Connell, Lukas Graham, Beoga, and Aaron Rowe, who all withdrew from
the pop star's tour following recent controversies.
‘We would never normally let down the fans who had made plans, nor would we
abandon the touring crew, our dancers, sound engineers, fluffers, and the other
support acts and musicians who rely on us for work and to make a living," the band
stated in an official release. "But after Ed lacked having a vertebral column, we just
had to leave the tour and switch to playing venues that support freedom of speech’.
Despite the sudden fallout, the band acknowledged their history with the pop icon.
‘We do not take the decision lightly. Ed has been a friend to BANJZIG and has
changed our lives. He was the one who said we should have more banjo solos, not
less, and he encouraged us to wear kilts. We could never thank him enough for this.
However, we wont play in venues that silence anyone, it is simply not an option for
us, so we are playing these smaller stadiums instead’.
