Deadly Eyes (M, 1982) Presented in 35mm Film by The Revival House Perth

In Toronto, oversized rats—mutated to monstrous proportions after feeding on steroid-contaminated grain—begin stalking the city's residents, starting with the most vulnerable among them. High school teacher Paul Harris (Sam Groom), already juggling a complicated divorce and the unwelcome advances of an infatuated student, teams up with local health inspector Kelly Leonard (Sara Botsford) to investigate the mounting attacks. As the rat infestation spirals out of control and the body count climbs, Paul and Kelly must convince skeptical city officials of the genuine danger lurking in Toronto's sewers and subways before the swarm claims its most devastating victim yet.

Director Robert Clouse, best known for helming Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon, brings an unexpected pedigree to this gleefully schlocky entry in the "nature run amok" horror sub-genre. The film's now-legendary approach to its rat attacks—dachshunds dressed in rat costumes, augmented with practical rat puppets for close-up kills—has become a point of considerable camp fascination among genre fans in the decades since. Clouse keeps the brisk, lean production moving at a steady clip, never allowing its inherently silly premise to overstay its welcome. Equal parts earnest horror and unintentional comedy, Deadly Eyes remains a beloved curiosity of early-80s creature-feature excess, its go-for-broke commitment to a ludicrous premise earning it lasting cult appreciation.

Original format and audio experience of this film faithfully reproduced by The Revival House. Presented in 35mm film unless noted otherwise.
