Big Special (UK), Radio Free Alice and Sex Mask
November sees two of Australia’s finest independent party purveyors - Finely Tuned and Pav Modern - combine to bring you a triple-headline run of shows starring three of this year’s hottest bands: Big Special (UK), Radio Free Alice (AU) and Sex Mask (AU).
- Brisbane – Brightside – Thursday, 28 November
- Melbourne – The Corner – Friday, 29 November
- Sydney – Mary’s Underground – Saturday, 30 November
Perched upon the precipice of globe-trotting indie-domination sit Big Special, two punks determined to explore the bleak and beautiful honesty of a nation in an ever-growing state of depression. Fresh off a UK tour, a new album and a history-making set at Glastonbury, they bring a helping of unfiltered honesty, a shot of biting humour and mouthfuls of spoken-word grit to Australia’s shores for the very first time.
Radio Free Alice are your new favourite band. These Eora-born, Naarm-based lads are quickly stirring things up in the punk scene with their emotional edge and nostalgic sound. Blending the best of early 2000s indie (think The Strokes, The Libertines and The Arctic Monkeys) with unique new take, RFA deliver riffs that hit hard and lyrics that linger. Come for the classic alt-punk vibes, stay for the boundless energy and anthemic tunes.
Is Sex Mask an egocentric attempt at being heard while saying almost nothing? Maybe—but they sure make it look good. Part postmodern riddle, part manifesto; this alt-rock Naarm-based threepiece are on the rise, blending ‘vague pop’, shoegaze and a contagious raw indie energy that’ll leave you wanting more.
Between them, Finely Tuned (creators of the 4-day musical odyssey, Lost Paradise) and Pav Modern (Unpopular, Vivid, Modular) have been at the bleeding edge of curating and championing many of the world’s hottest acts across Australia. As we head towards the warmer months, these shows are set to be the hottest ticket in town. Grab yours, grab a mate and join us for one hell of a party this November.
