some space to sit and soak in sound

slow music club is an event series focused on artists who occupy the quieter corners.
It’s for those whose music rewards a considered ear in an attentive room. The Junk Bar’s dedicated music space (The Skukum Lounge) is the perfect place to house this concept with the sixth iteration of the series featuring three acts whose sounds traverse crossover ambient, acoustic singer-songwriter, and minimal lapsteel explorations.

4000 Records is incredibly proud to present:
Angharad Drake
Angharad Drake is trying something new. After her 2017 full-length album debut with Ghost, Drake moved from bustling Brisbane to the much quieter Sunshine Coast to start a family.. Drake’s life as a mother only seems to strengthen her folk storytelling and lullaby melodies. From her home on the sunshine coast, Drake has returned to a more stripped-down way of making her music: just her and her guitar, both more natural and more intimate. This new approach serves to emphasize her powerful voice.
Citing influences such as Elliot Smith, Sufjan Stevens and Kurt Viles, Drake is a fresh voice in a sometimes formulaic landscape of singer-songwriters. Listening to her music over the years, there are nods to her folk influences, but Drake has continued to maintain and develop her own unique voice. Her haunting lyrics balance the yearning of young love with honest introspection and a realness that’s hard to match, and her melodies are the kind that you find yourself humming in your own contemplative moods with all the bittersweet complexity that this assurance entails.

LunarModule [debut performance]
LunarModule is an ambient music project by Danny Widdicombe, rooted in exploration, openness, and the quiet poetry of the natural world.
Created in the heart of Butter Chicken Studios, the project blends original soundscapes with the lyrical voice of the pedal steel guitar, an instrument whose weeping, expressive tones drift through each composition like light through fog. Working closely with the forward‑thinking label Futurfonic, LunarModule releases music that feels both intimate and expansive, inviting listeners into spaces where time stretches and dissolves.
The project draws deep inspiration from the infinite shapes, colors, and textures found in nature. Each track aims to translate those subtle organic patterns into sound: swirling harmonic layers that echo shifting skies, slow‑moving drones that resemble geological time, and melodic fragments that feel like distant signals carried on the wind.
The result is music that offers both reflection and escape, the familiar warmth of the pedal steel merging with lush ambient atmospheres.
LunarModule’s sonic world is one of immersion and curiosity—music designed not just to be heard but to be inhabited. It’s an evolving journey through tone, space, and emotion, crafted for listeners seeking calm, depth, and a sense of the infinite.

Shugorei
Shugorei is big, loud and brash… normally.
But we’ll do our best to resist that urge when we play at the slow music club. Our releases have been diverse, including music that sounds classical, or like IDM, or even, occasionally, ambient. Our last release, Music for Uncertain Walls, was just that.
The thread that joins all of these is our ongoing desire to create magical worlds in music: tapestries and sparkling, organic flows, as we meld crystalline percussion and eerie electronics. At The Junk Bar, we’ll create a special world just for you, and we’ll journey through it together.
