Thursday, 14 May 2026 7:00 pm
Great Southern Nights 2026 takes place from 1 – 17 May 2026 featuring 300+ gigs across Sydney and New South Wales.
Frontier Touring is excited to announce one of Australia’s most fearless artists, acclaimed Ghanaian-Australian Genesis Owusu, will take his electrifying live show across the nation this May with the Red Star Wu’s Pirate Radio Tour. Owusu takes to the stage in celebration of his forthcoming third studio album, REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE, announced today and released Friday 15 May via OURNESS.
Bold, unwavering and a singular force in contemporary music, Owusu has built a reputation as one of the nation’s most compelling live artists. Renowned for high-energy shows that blur the lines between concert, performance art and rallying cry, Owusu’s live reputation has seen him sell out venues and ignite festival crowds across multiple continents.
REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE marks the third studio album to arrive from one of Australia’s most celebrated and visionary contemporary artists. Across the tracks, Owusu constructs an exposed state-of-the-day record, carving the purest of human emotions into song at a time when they feel most rife. Experimental yet cohesive, desolate yet ecstatic, unflinching yet free – duality punctuates the album as he layers musings on an unsettled world with piercing reflections of his, and our own, places within it. Owusu collates his blended taste seamlessly across an eclectic sound bed, threading Neo-Soul into Alt Pop, Synth Punk into Deep Funk, Brit Rock and more. Rich in lyricism and earnest in its message, the resolute body of work confronts a divisive era that is ripping at the seams of humanity and heeds the need for unity.
Owusu first captured the world’s attention with his 2021 debut Smiling with No Teeth, a fearless sonic exploration fusing funk, punk urgency and razor-sharp hip-hop. Widely celebrated as a modern classic, Rolling Stone Australia ranked it #1 in its list of the ‘100 Best Australian Albums of the 2020s So Far’, while it also earned acclaim from The Guardian and NME, propelling Owusu to his US late-night television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. 2023 saw the release of STRUGGLER – a bold concept album heralded by the likes of Paste, NPR, Billboard, Alternative Press, among others. Together, the two records have collected 7x ARIA Awards, including two ‘Album of the Year’ wins.
Internationally, Owusu’s trajectory continues to soar, having shared stages with acts such as Tame Impala, Paramore and IDLES, while also performing at some of the world’s most iconic festivals including Lollapalooza, Primavera Sound, Austin City Limits Music Festival, Mad Cool Festival and Boston Calling. Now, with a new album on the way, Owusu returns to home soil, for what promises to be one of the hottest tours of the year.
With new music in motion and his ever-evolving creative vision, Genesis Owusu is returning home this May with a powerful new live chapter… don’t miss these shows!
