slow music club is an event series focused on artists who occupy the quieter corners.

It’s for those whose music rewards a considered ear in an attentive room. The Junk Bar’s dedicated music space (The Skukum Lounge) is the perfect place to house this concept with the fifth iteration of the series featuring three local acts whose sounds traverse jazz, blues and experimental electronics.

4000 Records is incredibly proud to present:

The Scornful Four

A multi-generational jazz quartet from Meanjin that features repertoire that is entrenched in the history of jazz with a uniquely Australian approach, evoking the incomparable vast landscapes and vistas of our home.

This group reveres the bleak counterpoints of the classic Mulligan-Baker Quartet, with nods to the legendary pianoless groups of Sonny Rollins and Coltrane’s fiery '60s ensembles.

Shade Hadie

Four-piece blues band Shade Hadie unleashes a raw, analogue sound steeped in the spirit of the 50's and 60's. Drawing from Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters to Canned Heat, Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart, they fuse gritty blues with vintage rock.

Since arriving on the live music scene in 2023, Shade Hadie have been captivating audiences with their signature mix of original tracks and reinvented covers. Lead singer and guitarist Buddy Moyes delivers a powerful, gravelly voice that fluctuates between understated restraint and explosive raw energy. His vocals resonate with raw intensity, blending Howlin' Wolf's haunting grit and Tom Waits jagged tones.

With intricate, unpredictable guitar solos by Moyes and fellow lead guitarist Oskar Thaw, layered with Moyes' harmonica and backed by Michael Georgas on bass and the theatrical soundscape of percussionist Riley Sharp, the band create an electrifying, vibrant textured blend of improvised blues.

Voltfruit

Voltfruit is the duo project of Flora Wong (strings/electronics) and Luke Cuerel (winds/synths/electronics). After meeting backstage at The Tivoli, their music-making has been shaped by conversations with friendly neighbourhood butcherbirds, long drives out West, outdoor improvisations along rivers and beaches, and countless hours wandering through Hyrule. They create expansive soundscapes built on layers of textured drones, strings and winds
