Way Out East is the project of Naarm/Melbourne Based Saxophonist/Composer Andre Lew (Playlunch, Becca Hatch, Kala Gare, Seb Szabo). Dubbing it as “Trap Jazz” Andre has developed a uniquely individual voice that both pays homage to his upbringing as a Chinese Australian through Chinese folk traditions and the rich history of Black American Music through Jazz and Hip hop. Drawing inspiration from his Hong Kong Cultural Heritage, Jazz background and love of hip hop, his music is an amalgamation of his entire musical and personal identity.

Andre will be teaming up with 'Earworthy!' to launch his debut album 'DYNA$TY' a dedication his parents sacrifice working as restaurateurs to give him a better life. Recorded earlier in March live in a Chinese Restaurant, Andre will be bringing his music to the iconic Chinese themed cocktail bar "Moondrop Bar" for a night of capivating and explosive Jazz, Trap and everything in between. The evening will be featuring award winning Guzheng player Mindy Meng Wang and his incredible band.

Jerry Li - Trumpet
Russell Tay - Piano
Charlie Rank - Bass
Miles Henry - Drums

He will be joined by supports from Jerry Li x Zayne Guo and QiQi

Don't miss out on the most exciting event in live music this month - it's something no one has quite seen before.

Jerry Li x Zayne Guo

Both born in Beijing and based in Melbourne, Jerry + Zayne is a new duo project by trumpeter Jerry Li and drummer Zayne Guo. Through the lens of hiphop/soul sampling, the duo explore the sounds that make up their childhood, as well as the many influences that shaped their individual musical identities. Expect an eclectic array of tunes across genres, backed by improvised melodies and hard hitting grooves.

QiQi

QiQi is a Melbourne/Naarm-based guzheng artist, composer and multi-instrumentalist whose music brings together Chinese musical traditions, jazz, improvisation and contemporary classical composition. Through original works and imaginative collaborations, QiQi explores the possibilities of the guzheng beyond its traditional repertoire, creating performances that invite audiences to listen, connect and participate. From intimate solo performances to multidisciplinary productions, QiQi presents music for festivals, theatres, galleries, cultural celebrations and community events across Australia.

Earworthy!

Earworthy! is an independent music project bringing people together through sound and culture across Australia and China. We find sounds worth sharing, gather people around them, and help music-led spaces and projects take shape—from outdoor sessions in Melbourne to events in Beijing and Shanghai. Selects, Club, Production and Records are four ways of doing the same work: moving music through people, places and, increasingly, physical form.
