ROLLER ONE CELEBRATE THE RELEASE OF FATE DONE NICE WITH THE REMOTES AND THE VAN WALKER TRIO
Melbourne/Naarm astral-country outfit Roller One will celebrate the release of their fourth album, Fate Done Nice, with a special showcase performance joined by fellow Melbourne music stalwarts The Remotes and The Van Walker Trio.
Released through Cheersquad Records & Tapes, Fate Done Nice marks a new chapter for Roller One. Built around the songwriting of Fergus McAlpin and featuring Adam Afiff on double bass, the album reunites former Silver City Highway bandmates Simon Edwards and Nick Hurle, alongside contributions from Georgia Knight and Cahill Kelly. The result is a record that broadens the band's distinctive counter-country sound with greater drive, energy and sonic depth, while retaining the warmth and intimacy that has defined Roller One's music for more than fifteen years.
Across Fate Done Nice, Roller One paint vivid scenes of suburban streets, city corners, racetrack totes and country landscapes. The songs exist as snapshots of memory, place and emotion rather than conventional narratives, creating a collection that feels both deeply personal and universally familiar. Joining Roller One are The Remotes, whose long-awaited second album Ready For It arrived after a journey spanning continents and more than two decades. Originally formed by Ollie Browne and Kristian Brenchley and later joined by Laura MacFarlane, The Remotes blend dreamy indie-pop, baroque textures and poetic songwriting into music that feels timeless and deeply human. Their return has been marked by a series of acclaimed new recordings that bridge the gap between past and present.
Opening the evening is The Van Walker Trio, led by one of Australia's most respected and prolific songwriters. From his early days with Swedish Magazines and Goatpiss Gasoline through to acclaimed solo albums including The Celestial Railroad and Ghosting, Van Walker has spent decades crafting songs that draw equally from folk, country, literature and the Australian landscape.
