Big Black Maria have been making waves with their brooding, experimental sound since their debut performance in May this year.
On August 23rd, Big Black Maria headline a stacked lineup spanning lush shoegaze to high energy punk sounds - being joined by Mirror Clippers, BB Sabina and Signal Chain. Sunday Afternoon at the Retreat will be loud, gloomy and unmissable.
Signal Chain have been relentlessly gigging around Naarm following the release of their debut record ‘Often Spring’ last November - a dense, dynamic 9 track triumph ranging from sweet melancholic folk to driving, fuzzed out rockers. Their live sound packs all the range and punch of their recorded material… and then some.
BB Sabina will undoubtedly build atmosphere with their distinct, kaleidoscopic blend of shoegaze, post-rock and electronica. Touching on themes of identity, creativity and personal transformation, you will be immersed not only through introspection but through their dense, ethereal sound.
Mirror Clippers fall somewhere between CAN, BEAK> and Thee Oh Sees - fusing psych, doom, krautrock and avant garde into a ‘two piece storm’ of analogue fuzz-driven power rock. Following the release of their debut self-titled EP, their unique live sound has been showcased across many of Naarm’s most beloved music venues. This will be relentless, fast, hypnotic and gentle all at the same time.
