The dictionary calls Mayhem “a situation that is not controlled or ordered, when people are behaving in a disorganized, confused fashion”. We call it a four-band rock and roll gig where anything can happen.

Mayhem in May is a high impact, big value bill bringing together - in alphabetical but maybe not playing order – The Jane Does, Jupiter 5, Moot and The Strikeouts at Marrickville Bowling Club on May 3. Which happens to be Federal Election Night.

Playing order will be decided by a pre-game draw with the first band on stage at 7.30pm. Mystery and mayhem for the pre-sale price of $20 + booking fee! And what a line-up…

The Jane Does are two girls, two guys and a whole bunch of fun. Equal parts melodic pop and garage rock, they’ve been building a big base of fans in and around Sydney for a couple of years now and are threatening to release their first recordings. Jane Doe is a generic term for anonymity but their music is not.

Jupiter 5 have been exploring the outer reaches of the solar system on the back of the album "5th From The Sun" with supports to a string of local and international acts. Convened from trace elements of The Conspirators, Thurston Howlers and 69BC, they combine ‘70s riffs with lashings of 60's psychedelia and a frontman who defies categorisation.

Moot come from the genteel Mid North Coast town of Forster but are anything but retiring. They’ve been going against the grain with high energy rock and roll for a dozen years. Equal parts Dead Kennedys, Radio Birdman and MC5, they’re making one of their occasional forays to Sydney just to be part of Mayhem.

Since crawling from a pile of busted music gear a few years ago, The Strike Outs have been inflicting their caustic garage trash wherever there’s power and earholes. Combining the assault of Motorhead with the trash of the Mummies, their “full bore, anywhere, anytime” attitude has made them Australia’s hardest-working rock and roll duo.

That’s one killer line-up of bands for the price of two or three drinks. Give Don’s Party a miss. Don’t be a maybe. Be part of the Mayhem.
