The Reg Cole Quartet is an original band from Melbourne, although the songwriters of
the band, Sergio Ercole (guitar and vocals) and Zac Teichmann (vocals), met in Florence,
Italy almost 50 years ago. When Sergio studied at the Conservatorium of Music at
University of Melbourne in the mid-90s, he met Tim Davies (drums) and Justin Lee (bass),
and The Reg Cole Quartet was formed, finding their eclectic and irreverent style. When Tim
Davies left for Hollywood in 1999, the band was fortunate enough to be able to turn to
George Andrews (drums).
They were regulars at live venues like around Melbourne back then, with highlights including
playing their songs in a big band ensemble at The Continental, The Odeon Room at Crown,
and The Corner Hotel and recording an album at the Iwaki Auditorium.
Since their return to playing in 2013, they perform regularly at Paris Cat Jazz Club, The
Palais in Hepburn and Classic Southside.
In an era of decline for live, original music, the band pride themselves on traversing genres
in a way that is rare maintaining a cohesive and distinctive style that draws on jazz
influences as well as pop, blues, funk and latin, whilst having a heap of fun!
