Ausecuma Beats are more than a band, they are a philosophy. Led by master djembe player and fearless bandleader Boubacar Gaye, the nine-strong ensemble brings together musicians from Australia, Senegal, Cuba and Mali. Their name reflects this shared heritage – AU-SE-CU-MA – and their music explores what happens when cultural traditions are transplanted into a contemporary city. With four percussionists at its core, enhanced by guitar, kora and saxophone, Ausecuma Beats deliver a vibrant, visceral and deeply joyful live experience that speaks to unity through diversity.

Guiding the musical journey between live sets is Shio from Eternal Rhythm (PBS, Thursdays 11am - 1pm), spinning spiritual jazz to free jazz, Afrocentric jazz to Oriental jazz, odd rarities and modern sounds from all around the world. Shio explores the deeper side of jazz from both past and present, and inspires a broader appreciation of the many directions that jazz can take.
