Every Friday night from 830 pm to 1130pm, Vinyl will be spun.
The music will be curated by various knowledgeable music nerds such as Jon, SaySo and Dr Graham.
They feature styles such as Afro Jazz, 70s funk, Kraut Rock, Swampy Funk, contemporary Psych Rock , Spiritual Jazz and pre 80s Fusion (before Fusak), as well as early West African bands from Nigeria, Guinea, Senegal and Mali.
Local contemporary bands are intertwined.The musical safari traverses artists such as Salif Keita, Can, Snarky Puppy, Ibrahim Maalouf, Miles Electric Band, the Miles electric period, Lafayette Afro Rock Band, Mild Life, Emma Donavan and the Putbacks, Mulatto Estaki with the Black Jesus Experience, Fella Kuti, George Duke, Zappa, Shakti, Bill Laswell remixes, Dumpstafunk, Bootsy Collins, Alice Coltrain, Commets on Fire, Earthless, Hendrix, Aires Rock, Quasar, Causa Sui, Weather Report, Fred Wesley and the JBs, Jean Luc Ponty, Allan Holdsworth, Fishbone. You get the idea.
It’s engaging grooves with virtuosic solos, killer horn sections with massive pocket, spiritual soundscapes with languid melodies. No EDM in these sets.
