We don’t need no stinking fireworks! New Year’s Eve’s the most overrated night on the calendar, so stay home and bring in 2025 the right way with a dose of high-octane rock and roll on Saturday, January 4 instead.

Forget the Lord Mayor’s drone show. It will be an aerial bombardment of a sojic kind when the killer line-up of Jupiter 5, The Jane Does, The Sugar Beats and The Men from U.N.C.L.E. descends on Marrickville Bowling Club for a night of Rock Action.

The Men from U.N.C.L.E. have been rocking Sydney for more years than even they can remember, but still deliver with their suitcase-full of garage punk blues. It’s front-Uncle Pat’s birthday so get there early to party with him.

The Sugar Beats emanate from Wollongong with peerless credentials, drawn from membership of Nitrocris, The Stike-Outs and Evil Twin. Their armour-plated yet tender brand of garage rock is gracing the Bowlo for a second time and their debut recording release isn’t far away.

The Jane Does have been building a reputation for pop smarts and rock that rolls at various Sydney venues for a couple of years now, and bulk out a quality four-band middle order with an expanded set with more killer originals.

Jupiter 5 take a break from the recording of their difficult second album with with their own take on Sabbath meeting the Sonics. Expect some Supersonic Heroics along with a sprinkling of new material.

All this and more under the Copperart ceiling - and if you buy in advance, it will set you less than the price of a pint at a stupidly-packed NYE pub in The Rocks full of pissed backpackers.
