Popular Music celebrate the vinyl release of Against Men, out on IT Records, with a special Brisbane launch show.

The project of Zac Pennington (Parenthetical Girls) and composer Prudence Rees-Lee, Popular Music make intimate synth-pop with widescreen ambitions. Shimmering analogue electronics, glam-rock swagger and baroque balladry meet in songs of romance, betrayal and existential dread—beautiful, unsettling and darkly funny.

Recorded at Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (M.E.S.S.) using its extraordinary collection of historic electronic instruments, Against Men channels the spectral electronics of Joe Meek, Daphne Oram and Delia Derbyshire alongside the early post-punk experiments of The Human League and OMD. Featuring strings by celebrated composer Jherek Bischoff, the album pairs classic pop structures with an appetite for the unexpected.
