Future Treasures – Workshop Series for Emerging Young Musicians
Ever wanted to try an open mic but felt too young? This special event gives students the chance to perform in a supportive live setting.
The afternoon begins with guest speaker, Mark Neal, followed by a workshop on preparing for open mic performance—including what to bring, how to register, and performance etiquette. Students will then take part in a 30-minute open mic set, with friends and family welcome to attend.
Mark Neal is a WA music professional with over 10 years experience working in bookings, events, management, and was awarded the prestigious Golden WAMi in 2023. Growing up in regional WA, Mark moved to Perth and engulfed himself in the community playing in numerous bands, most notably Odlaw and Sugar Wife. Mark is the booking agent for The Bird. Until recently Mark was also an Artist manager working with Noah DIllon, Australian Critters and Angie Colman, and his award winning record label Blue Grey Pink looked after artist releases for acts like, Gap Year, Pat Chow, Jocelyn’s Baby, Dolce Blue, and more.
For high school students, aged +14 years
WAM Special guest speaker from 4pm to 4.30pm
Followed by Open Mic session specifically for students until 5:30pm
Honky Tonks regular Open Mic night will proceed from 5:30pm - students welcome to participate and must have a guardian present.
