Billy Cart (VIC) album launch at Junk Bar, Bris! WIth support from local 7-piece sweethearts Still Full From Lunch and Lo-Fi smartphone plant-based postpunks Los HOUSEPLANTS F.C.
Naarm / Melbourne’s Billy Cart are at long last poised to release their eagerly awaited debut album, the aptly named ‘Greatest Hits’, out 5 th March. Spanning nine tracks, the record is an endearing and personal collection of tracks that threads together ‘90s alternative and grunge with lo-fi slacker charm and earnest indie songwriting.
Billy Cart have always excelled at finding meaning in the mundane. Their songs are built from everyday moments, small observations and familiar anxieties, approached with warmth, humour and insight. It’s an approach that has led to a strong connection with their audience, often prompting listeners to share their own parallel stories and experiences with the band. ‘Greatest Hits’ gathers these songs into one cohesive release, giving shape to the themes and experiences that have defined the band so far.
The album was recorded in 2023, just before singer/drummer/guitarist Billy Raffin relocated to the US for a year, while bandmate Jamie was also moving overseas. With the group’s future uncertain, there was an urgency to preserve the songs as they existed in that moment. But as fate would have it, the band reunited back on home soil in 2025 and have not wasted a moment, releasing four incredible singles in that time.
‘Greatest Hits’ was recorded at RMIT by Tim Johnston (Satellite Studios; Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Beasts of Bourbon, The Waifs) and Dale Mamo. It was mixed by Dale, with mastering by Joe Carra (Crystal Mastering).
To celebrate the release, the band will embark on a huge 13-date tour across VIC, QLD, NSW, ACT and TAS.
Billy Cart have received support from radio across Australia including PBS, 3RRR, Radio Adelaide, 4ZZZ, RTR, 2SER and SYN, and have been added to rotation on FBi Radio. The band have performed at Valley Sounds Festival (2025), with Billy also appearing solo at Ingenuity Festival in Cleveland, Ohio (2024). Their work has been supported by a City of Yarra Small Project Grant (2022), a Bakehouse Studios bursary (2021), and Heaps Normal, who sponsored the band’s August 2025 tour. Billy is also an alum of the AIR Women in Music mentorship program, receiving mentorship from Jo Syme (Big Scary, Pieater Records).
