January 26 doesn't celebrate Australian culture that has existed for more than 60,000 years. It celebrates the British Monarchy colonising the country. It celebrates the beginning of land dispossession and genocide.
Changing the date won't magically fix the past, but it's one of many small steps needed to recognise that our country was built with Aboriginal blood, followed by a long journey to actually improve the lives of our Aboriginal Australian brothers and sisters.
This is the third Annual Anti-Australia Day gig set up by DOLE CHEQUE: a comedy punk group that satirises Australian culture and pokes fun of those with perhaps a little too much money.
Joining them are the silly scallywags PROJECTILE DYSFUNCTION, young whippersnapper punks UNEDUC4TED, along with 60's jammers THE VOIDDECKS.
All proceeds from this event will go to Pay The Rent. This event takes place on Wurundjeri land in Ngár-go. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
