Hailing from Geelong, The Sweethearts are a collective of young musicians bringing a new generation of voices to classic soul, funk and rhythm and blues.
Over the years, The Sweethearts have performed on stages around the world, including repeat appearances at Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, Jazz à Vienne in France and Porretta Soul Festival in Italy, and have worked with renowned musicians including Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, Pee Wee Ellis, Gil Askey and Vivian Sessoms.
The current line-up pairs exceptional musicianship with a deep appreciation for the sounds that came before them. Drawing from the rich traditions of soul, New Orleans funk and rhythm and blues, The Sweethearts combine tight rhythm sections, expressive horns, rich vocal arrangements and an instinctive sense of groove with a perspective distinctly their own.
Launching the first single from their debut album of original material, A Woman’s World, brings together nine songs steeped in classic soul, funk, blues and rhythm and blues, with contributions from 21 different songwriters across the band. Driven by tight grooves, rich horn arrangements, warm keys and powerful vocal performances, the album captures a songwriting sophistication and instrumental dexterity that feels right at home alongside influences such as Irma Thomas, Anne Peebles and The Meters.
