Australia has been treated to a steady flow of bands from the Land of the Rising Sun over the last decade and cult sensations Dr Psychedelic Poodle are the latest to join the touring ranks.
They’ll play their only Australian show at The MoshPit in Sydney on Saturday, February 22 from 2-5.30pm, supported by the like-minded Jupiter 5 and Cheetah Beat. Tickets are $15 in advance on ozrix.com.au or $20 at the door.
Formed in the northern Japanese city of Sendai in June 2016, Dr Psychedelic Poodle are a regular on the busy Japanese underground garage scene.
Originally a pub rock and rockabilly band in the style of Dr Feelgood and The Stray Cats, they’ve evolved their sound to be something more primal, and their live presentation been heavily influenced by the energy and dynamics of The King Brothers.
It was their selection to play the prestigious Back From The Grave Halloween Ball in Tokyo that shifted their focus and put them on the garage rock map.
Comprising Miq Addams (vocals), Kota End (guitar), Brian (bass), Dr Milk (drums) and Taro (keyboards), Dr Psychedelic Poodle have evolved into one of Japan’s best garage punk outfits.
Jupiter 5 have been hard at work on their second album, the follow-up to “Fifth From The Sun”, and will take a break from the studio to support Dr Psychedelic Poodle.
Opening proceedings will be veterans Cheetah Beat, the band led by ex Boobytraps and Hekawis guitarist Brett Barton, back playing their first show since 2021.
