Funk's Not Dead
w/ Blackdogg, Milo Palma and Mes3
In this present so defined by the ephemeral and the viral, offering a dance floor to the rhythm of the most primitive funk and disco is a political act. The music industry moves fast these days. Musical works resemble McDonald's burgers more than works of art. And while we look upon these developments with sadness, we can only respond with joy — creating a space that embodies the opposite idea: music for no other reason than the pleasure of it.
"Funk's not dead" might sound like a cliché stolen from another music genre, but it's actually a phrase that seeks to reclaim that same sense of identity and defiance once wielded by the punk world. It means that those of us who came to music without intermediaries and without ulterior motives will always be here. Those of us who had life-changing experiences on a dance floor, and who refuse to surrender to the commercial rules the world today offers us.
We choose the music of the 70s and 80s because we love what it does to our bodies, but also for its historical value as a precursor to dance music — for its timeless quality, its inexhaustibility, and because to this day there is still so much left to discover. From the classics that shaped the genre to the hidden gems still left to discover, every track will be chosen with intention.
Everyone is welcome to the dance floor. Let's dance!
