From humble beginnings in a powerless Carlton share house, Seymour wrote his first song in 1980 and soon found himself at the centre of one of Australia’s most influential musical stories. As the frontman and principal songwriter of Hunters & Collectors, he helped create songs that still resonate generations later, including Talking to a Stranger, Throw Your Arms Around Me, The Holy Grail, The Slab and Westgate.

But Seymour’s story has never followed a straight line. Across 18 years with Hunters & Collectors and 27 years as a solo artist, his music has constantly evolved, moving between raw rock, intimate acoustic songwriting and everything in between. Through it all, the process has remained remarkably simple: an acoustic guitar, a recording device, a few words and a story about the people, places and moments that shape a life.

That honesty is at the heart of Seymour’s live shows. Whether performing with his four-piece band The Undertow or acoustically, he focuses on the songs and the connection they create with the people in the room.

With his 2024 release The Boxer marking his 19th collection of original songs, recent collaborations with Vika & Linda Bull, appearances on the Red Hot Summer Tour and a new album in the works, Mark Seymour continues to write, perform and connect with audiences on his own terms.
