John Schumann and the Vagabond Crew celebrate Australian stories, mateship, dry humour and a connection to land and history with two concert sets: “Behind the Lines” and “The Redgum Years”.

John Schumann’s acclaimed “Behind the Lines” album from 2008 comprises beautiful rearrangements of much-loved classics about Australians at war. John and the band will also perform his own songs, “Safe behind the Wire”, “On Every Anzac Day”, “Anzac Biscuits” and, of course, “19”.

Theatrical as well as musical, “Behind the Lines” features a moving narrative, delivered by acclaimed actor Celine O’Leary, comprising newspaper reports of the day, poems, letters from the front and evocative reflections.

After interval, John and the boys perform the much loved “Redgum Years”. Schumann’s and Redgum’s songs have woven themselves into Australia’s cultural fabric, telling our stories and changing the country along the way.

“The Redgum Years” has whipped up a fair bit of demand for a live recording so the Gov gig will be an important warmup to a live recording of “The Redgum Years” at the Memo Music Hall in St Kilda on the following weekend.

With the working title “Corrugated Highway”, Trump fans won’t like it, nor will the right-wing shock jocks, climate change deniers, Murdoch’s playmates etc etc …

“Too bad,” says John.

One night. Two concerts. Two Up.
