The Tall Grass are excited to be performing at LongPlay to launch their latest single Weathervane and its accompanying film clip from their acclaimed album Down the Unmarked Road.

The Tall Grass is a collaboration between Sydney based singer/songwriters Peter Fenton (Crow) and Jamie Hutchings (Bluebottle Kiss/Infinity Broke).

Both members rack up a very impressive and long history in the Australian independent music scene.

Peter Fenton is the charismatic frontman for Sydney legends Crow - a band with a formidable underground reputation and a catalogue of four outstanding albums. Fenton has also released a solo album, In The Lovers Arms, and worked regularly as an actor both in stage and in film.

Jamie Hutchings was the frontman for the equally iconic Bluebottle Kiss. The group released six albums and cemented themselves as one of Sydney’s great cult acts. He has released a number of solo albums, worked as a producer and currently fronts experimental rock group Infinity Broke.

The duo are a potent and beguiling proposition, taking traditional songwriting forms and twisting them into one -off shapes that both spook and move the listener.

Their debut album, Down TheUnmarked Road, saw the duo leave their regular Sydney environs to instead take up temporary residence in Melbourne producer and engineer Richard Andrew’s (Underground Lovers, Registered Nurse etc) Pharmacy studios. Many of the songs are co-sung, often into a single microphone with much of the random accompanying instrumentation also being provided by the pair. Special guests on the album also include Jesse Locke, Laura-Jean, Richard Andrew and Jerry Craib.

Legendary co-frontman of The Go Betweens and esteemed soloist and writer Robert Forster had this to say about it:

“Ten good songs. Serious intent. Some self-deprecation and wisdom … This album feels like an arrival, even as the songs are of goodbyes, danger, in and out of love, and difficulty. And Sydney’s here too: sticky, overwhelming and oh so beautiful. Like a canvas backdrop in a tent show, before which, much of the action plays out.”

Don’t miss this very special collaboration as they launch their new single Weathervane in duo mode.

As a rare treat the duo will also be performing separate solo sets to open the show.
