Following his sold-out Australian debut at Vivid LIVE 2014, German piano-prodigy and composer Nils Frahm returns to the Opera House for a personal performance in the intimate surrounds of the Studio, on Sunday 12 October, 2014.

Inviting audiences to the edge of the stage for a display of poignant keyboard melodies, rippling electronics and highlights from last year's career-defining live album, Spaces, described as 'A work of gentle genius' (The Quietus). This intimate performance will showcase the virtuoso’s unconventional approach to an age-old instrument, led by a restless search for immediacy and intimacy in his work which has won him universal acclaim.

Lauded for his all-live improvisational spirit and open-hearted discourse with fans, the 31-year-old composer has flourished from his Tschaikowski-schooled beginnings to embracing the minimalist tradition of classical greats (Steve Reich, Philip Glass), the boundless stagecraft of jazz legends (Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk), and electronic-minded admirers such as Thom Yorke and Four Tet.

Deeply inquisitive and forever-searching for the 'magic and spirit' in every space, Frahm's devotion to the stage culminated in his seventh and most recent LP Spaces, a live album captured from two years of performances in the world’s iconic concert halls and underground clubs alike.

Breathing new life into old traditions within a circle of contemporaries including Ludovico Einaudi, Max Richter and recent collaborators Ólafur Arnalds and Arcade Fire's Sarah Neufeld, Nils Frahm will now turn to Australia – going face-to-face with his signature array of pianos, synthesisers and the devoted following who have demanded his return.
